Tesla CEO and White House adviser Elon Musk said President Donald Trump will “go after” people who are “pushing the lies” about the company.
Musk’s popularity and the Tesla brand have taken nosedives among liberals and independents as he has increasingly steeped himself in right-wing politics. In January, Trump tapped Musk to lead the “Department of Government Efficiency,” which has laid off tens of thousands of federal workers and frozen funds appropriated by Congress. In response, scores of demonstrators have protested at Tesla showrooms across the country in recent weeks. In some cases, Tesla dealerships, cars, and charging stations have been vandalized.
Musk and a handful of members of “DOGE” appeared on Thursday’s Special Report on Fox News, where Bret Baier asked about the vandalism.
“There’s now been in these many cases, violence and vandalism at Tesla dealerships – how does that affect your employees, your customers?” he asked. “What does it mean to you?”
Musk, who has repeatedly cast himself as a free speech crusader, said that the ones ultimately responsible for the vandalism are people who “lie” about Tesla. Those people, he said, will be punished:
Well, I think a great wrong is being done to the people at Tesla and to our customers. Tesla’s a peaceful company that has made great cars, great products. That’s all it’s done. It hasn’t harmed anyone. And yet people are committing violence. They are firebombing Tesla dealerships. They are shooting guns into stores. They’re threatening people. You know, they’re issuing death threats against me and other Tesla personnel.
What are they doing this for? Why? And what’s happening, it seems to me, is they’re being fed propaganda by the far left. And they believe it. It’s really unfortunate. The real problem is not the people– it’s not like the crazy guy that firebombs a Tesla dealership. It’s the people pushing the propaganda that cause that guy to do it. Those are the real villains here and we’re gonna go after them. And the president’s made it clear. We’re gonna go after them. The ones providing the money, the ones pushing the lies and propaganda, we’re going after them.
